Alabama Operation Lifesaver

Alabama Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (AL OL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public safety program dedicated to reducing deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and along railroad rights-of-way. We have a wide variety of partners, including federal, state and local government agencies, highway safety and transportation organizations, and the nation's railroads. AL OL was established in 1976 and is a member of the national organization, Operation Lifesaver, Inc.

Since 1976, AL OL has been working hard to educate the public about the dangers at highway-rail grade crossings and railroad rights-of-way through free Operation Lifesaver presentations made by trained, Certified Presenters. The program strives to improve driver and pedestrian behavior at railroad crossings by encouraging compliance with traffic laws relating to crossing signs and signals. In addition to its education program, AL OL encourages the enforcement of existing traffic and trespassing laws. AL OL also supports engineering improvements including the installation and upgrading of crossing signs, signals and gates.
