Laurinburg & Southern

Founded in 1909, the Laurinburg and Southern Railroad is a 28 mile short-line railroad that runs from Raeford to Laurinburg, North Carolina. The railroad has been owned by Gulf & Ohio Railways since 1998.

Interchanging with CSX, the LRS moves 5,800 cars annually utilizing three locomotives. Shipments include glass and chemicals.

The LRS operates on longstanding traditions of safety, customer service, flexibility and innovation.

This railroad is a piece of living history. In an age of fast-paced change in the railroad industry— and in our society in general— historic survivors like the Laurinburg & Southern are rare.
