UK - Railway Correspondence & Travel Society
Welcome to the Home Page of the RCTS - the UK's leading Railway Enthusiasts Society, bringing together 3500 members all interested in railway operation past, present and future.
Members of the Society have been faithfully observing the railway scene in Great Britain and Overseas for many years and collectively they have accumulated a vast store of knowledge. This knowledge has enabled the Society to publish a series of widely acclaimed detailed locomotive histories, which are regarded as definitive reference books for researchers and modellers alike.

UK - Stephenson Locomotive Society
Named in honour of one of railway history's great families the SLS (Stephenson Locomotive Society), founded in 1909, is the premier society for the study of railways and railway locomotion. What is the Society about? We are an established publisher of railway books and our in-house SLS Journal; we also have an unprecedented collection of photographic and drawings material in several collections; we organise local meetings and events; we are the custodian of a 1/6 scale LNWR built locomotive Orion; we have our own railway archive material in museums. Further railway and SLS information is available on the attached pages including a a section with information about why the SLS is of relevance to railway modellers and film makers etc. All site updates and news items are listed on the News & updates page and regular visitors to the site should link to the news and updates page rather than this, more static, index page.
The SLS is a Society that will give you the in depth coverage of matters relating to locomotives and railway operation both old and new. The SLS is not just about steam locomotives and the study of our past but encompasses modern traction too. The SLS is a society with a hundred year history but is also looking forward. To the prospective member we offer access to an extensive railway related library our in-house Journal and a national network of meetings centres. We have a proud history, have achieved much in the field of preservation and heritage - why not join us?

UK - The AC Locomotive Group
We are the UK's only dedicated AC electric locomotive preservation society. We formed in 1996 and currently have ten AC locomotives in our care, including Britain's oldest surviving AC loco, dating from 1960, through to the unique 1986 prototype Class 89.
Please take a look around our website; you can read about all our locomotives and our restoration activities on them to date. If you're a fan of AC traction why not join up as a member and help to support the ongoing preservation of these fine machines?

UK - University of York Institute for Railway Studies
Since its establishment in 1995, the Institute for Railway Studies has been an active collaboration between the National Railway Museum (NRM) and the University of York. This focuses on research, scholarship and teaching, with its primary audiences being those interested in history and transport/mobility studies. Whilst other institutions have developed interests in the subject, none can rival the academic historical interest that exists in York, nor access the wealth of material contained within the NRM.
The museum itself is home to the finest railway collection in the world, including an exceptional archive which documents the influence of railways in shaping the world in which we live today. The archive is complemented by an extensive collection of photographs, film, sound recordings, posters, paintings, ceramics, textiles, silver and other artefacts a combination that gives the museum an unparalleled resource for facilitating and conducting academic study.

UK - Welsh Railways Research Circle
The Welsh Railways Research Circle (WRRC) aims to bring
together researchers and modellers who are interested or
specialise not only in the main line and branch railways of Wales
and the Border Counties, but also the tramways, tramroads and
the many rail connected industrial locations across the
Principality. The principal purpose of the WRRC is to provide
members with a forum for discussion, facilities to carry out
research and to enable contacts to be established with others of
similar interests, so going some way to avoid duplication of
research effort.
