Pere Marquette Historical Society
The Pere Marquette Historical Society, Inc. (PMHS) was founded in 1995 as a means of collecting and disseminating information regarding the Pere Marquette Railroad. The Pere Marquette operated over trackage stretching from Buffalo, New York to Chicago, and from Bay View (Petoskey) Michigan to Toledo, Ohio, with trackage in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Ontario. In addition to its strictly rail operations, the PM also operated railway car ferries on the Detroit and St. Clair rivers, and a fleet of car ferries from Ludington across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee, Kewaunee and Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Railway Post Office - Mobile Post Office Society (MPOS)
Mobile Post Office Society (MPOS) was founded in 1950 by a group of philatelists interested in the study of United States Highway Post Offices. It soon expanded to focus on Railway Post Offices, and eventually to the enroute distribution and postmarking of mail all over the world. It is a nonprofit organization, affiliate #64 of the American Philatelic Society.
MPOS has published the definitive studies of postmarks from the Railroad, Station, Route Agent, and Messenger services, and the Railway, Highway, Streetcar, Terminal, and Air Mail Field Post Offices as well as the Transfer Offices and Clerks in United States philately. Most recently, MPOS has added a focus on the USA's Rural Free Delivery (RFD) service and postmarks that were used around the beginning of the 20th century. 1996 saw the start of a study of "TRANSIT" markings used at intermediate Post Offices.

Railway Post Office - The Railway Mail Service Library
The Railway Mail Service Library (RMSL) is an archival collection of primary and secondary sources pertaining to en route distribution history. It also features many obsolete postal artifacts associated with this activity. These items are used to assist researchers interested in route agent, seapost, railway, and highway post office (RPO and HPO) operations, known as the Railway Mail Service/Postal Transportation Service (RMS/PTS). RMS Library coverage focuses on the period between 1862 and 1978 for the USA, as well as the late 19th and early 20th centuries for other postal administrations. Literature and artifacts related to the RMS/PTS are always sought, to improve the scope and depth of the collection. Auctions of duplicate items, such as things listed below, raise funds for these new acquisitions. A VHS cassette with two movies about RPOs is also available for $17 postpaid. Your patronage of these sales is appreciated!
