Austria - UNESCO WHS Semmering-Railway
Semmering-Railway Austria - The Semmering Railway, built over 41 km of high mountains between 1848 and 1854, is one of the greatest feats of civil engineering from this pioneering phase of railway building. The high standard of the tunnels, viaducts and other works has ensured the continuous use of the line up to the present day. It runs through a spectacular mountain landscape and there are many fine buildings designed for leisure activities along the way, built when the area was opened up due to the advent of the railway.

Finlands Railways VR offers train passengers a wide variety of services in long-distance and Helsinki Metropolitan Area services. VR operates nearly 320 long-distance services every day of which six between Finland and Russia. Helsinki Metropolitan Area is serviced by approximately 850 commuter train services per day.
VR Passenger Services is part of VR Ltd, the biggest company in VR Group. VR-Group is totally owned by the state and it was incorporated in 1995. Finnish Rail Administration is responsible for maintaining the rail network and building new lines with funds budgeted by the state. VR operates rail services on the rail network and pays a track fee to the state. VR-Track Ltd provides track planning, building and maintenance services to the state.
