Hawaiia - Kauai Sugar Train
We invite you to take a train ride back in time to when sugar coated the island and went from field to factory in small sugar trains.

Grove Farm museum's impressive collection of steam locomotives bridges cane haul methods from the earliest ox-drawn carts to steam driven locomotives to the use of gas powered cane trucks. This experience offers visitors the opportunity to learn of the sugar plantation transportation story where imagination led the movement of sugar cane. It demonstrates that during the industrial age, man's inventiveness harnessed steam in order to move tons of cane as well as for use in other industrial machinery applications. In effect, this exhibit serves as Kauai's museum of science and industry, where the scale, smell, sound and use of this equipment fill one's senses and imagination with awe and inspiration.

Kauai Sugar Train Since 1975 Grove Farm museum has provided free train rides at a monthly fire-up that began operating out of the Grove Farm Company's Puhi roundhouse, where the locomotives have been stored since they were retired in 1957. In 1999 Grove Farm museum acquired a mile long section of the original Lihue Plantation railroad right-of-way adjacent to the historic Lihue sugar mill. After laying 1,800 feet of track, the monthly fire-up was moved there to provide the only authentic sugar plantation steam train experience in the state.

Oregon - Canby Depot Museum
Canby, OR - The Canby Depot Museum is housed in one of Oregon's oldest railroad station. The original Articles of Incorporation of the Canby Historical Society refer to the wish for a museum. In the early 1980's the existing Canby Depot facility became available to the society.

The Canby Depot had been an active train station at the intersection of N. 1st and Grant Street throughout almost the entire history of the city, but the railroad was going to dismantle the depot unless the facility could be moved. Canby Historical Society was able to raise funds for the move of the depot to it's present location near N.E. 4th and Pine Street adjacent to the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.

Canby Historical Society has now had a museum for over 20 years and our members continue the work of organizing and displaying photos, artifacts and exhibits of historic significance, which afford a glimpse of 19th century life in this community.

Oregon - Depot Park and DeWitt Museum
Prairie City, OR - The DeWitt Museum The Sumpter Valley Railway (SVRy) was chartered in 1890 in Baker City and completed in 1910. The SVRy Passenger Station, commonly known as the Prairie City Depot, was constructed in 1910. It is a two story building of balloon frames construction, cruciform in plan, measuring 60 x 32 feet. The building has shiplap siding, jerkin headed cross-axial gable roofs, and bracketed, wraparound canopies which shelter the ground level doors of the east and west wings which contained freight storage and a passenger waiting room respectively.

The Depot was nominated into the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and restored throught the efforts of Mrs. Babs Brainard and the Sumpter Valley Depot Restoration Committee. The museum moved into the building in 1983.

In 1984, the City of Prairie city assumed management of the depot building from Grant county and moved the DeWitt Museum collections to a permanent home in the depot.

The goal of the Depot Museum is to house Oregon's most significant collection of narrow gauge railroad artifacts and historic documents.
