California - San Francisco's Municipal Railway (MUNI)
San Francisco, CA - Everything you ever wanted to know about riding Muni buses and historic streetcars, Muni Metro light rail, and our famed cable cars

San Francisco's Municipal Railway, known the world over as Muni, has served the citizens of San Francisco for over a century, literally rising from the ashes of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Its colorful history is as unique as its fleet of buses, light rail vehicles, historic streetcars and iconic cable cars. Learn more about Muni's origins in words and pictures culled from the SFMTA's extensive Photo Archive, and take a closer look at Muni's diverse fleet of vehicles, one of the greenest in the country.

This is a commuter transit system, not a museum, but with historic streetcars and cable cars, it can seem like one!
