Montana - Alder Gulch Short Line Railroad
Virginia City, MT - The Alder Gulch Shortline is a 30-inch narrow gauge tourist railroad now owned by the State of Montana. This unique railroad, built on dredge tailings along Alder Gulch, connects Virginia City and Nevada City with a one and a half mile mainline. The little railroad was built in 1964 by local entrepreneur, Charlie Bovey, who had dreams of extending the line into the town of Alder, eight miles to the west.

Montana - Charlie Russell Chew Choo

Montana - Historical Museum at Fort Missoula Drummond Depot
Missoula, MT - Drummond Depot 1910
Constructed in 1910, by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St.Paul and Pacific Railroad Company, this Milwaukee Road depot served the town of Drummond, about 60 miles southeast of Missoula. The depot was moved to the Fort in 1982 after the railroad closed its Montana operations. It has been restored with assistance from the Missoula Model Railroad Club. An exhibit inside the depot, including the John Barrows Memorial Ticket Office, interprets the history of railroad transportation in western Montana.

Engine No.7 1931
Engine No. 7 is a rare, Shay-type locomotive originally used by the Western Lumber Company of Milltown, Montana. It was later featured in the locally produced movie, Timberjack. It was donated to the museum by Champion International Inc. in 1989.

Trolley Barn 2007
The Trolley Barn houses the Museum's restored interurban streetcar that ran from Fort Missoula to Bonner from 1912 to 1932; a 1918 American-La France fire engine; and the Blackfoot Stagecoach.

Montana - Livingston Depot
The Historic Depot at Livingston was built in 1902 as the Norhtern Pacifics Railroad's original access to Yellowstone National Park. The majestic colonnade and ornate architectural details greeted travelers until 1979 when AMTRAK suspended passenger service to southern Montana. Burlington Northern, successor to Northern Pacific, used the building as office space until donating it to the City of Livingsotn in 1985.

Two years and $800,000 later, the restored depot opened as a museum operated by the Livingston Depot Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving this monument to Livingston's past. The Depot Center Museum operates from May to October, providing historic and cultural programs for the benefit of Park County residents and visitors form around the world. In the winter months, the Depot seves as a community cultural center, hosting such diverse events as concerts, banquets, holiday programs, and weddings.

Montana - Upper Musselshell Museum
Harlowton, MT - The largest HO scale collection of Milwaukee Road models in the United States tells the story of railroads in Central Montana including the Montana Railroad (the Jawbone), the Milwaukee Road, the White Sulphur Springs & Yellowstone Park Railroad, the BNSF and Montana Rail Link.

This collection includes over 550 models some 450 models of the Milwaukee Road are found here. It is the largest collection of Milwaukee Road models in the United States today.
