Using multimedia technology, immersive environments, and other theatrical techniques, America on the Move brings ships, trains, trucks, and automobiles back to life—or, more accurately, back to history. See these artifacts as they once were: moving people and products from place to place, a vital part of the nation's transportation system, a vital part of our business, social, and cultural history.
This major exhibition examines how transportation—from 1876 to 1999—has shaped our American identity from a mostly rural nation into a major economic power, forged a sense of national unity, delivered consumer abundance, and encouraged a degree of social and economic mobility unlike that of any other nation of the world.
