The Austin & Texas Central Railroad is a project of the Austin Steam Train Association. All of these trains draw from the same equipment and have different names based on their destination and schedule. Due to a serious problem with the steam locomotive, we are currently running our trains with a diesel locomotive

The railroad is serviced by two Victorian-style locomotives, including "Puffy" the 1896 steam locomotive, the oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and "Vinny," a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive. Most weekends throughout the year, The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. Texas - La Grange M-K-T (Katy) Railroad Depot
La Grange, TX - La Grange Railroad Museum. The La Grange M-K-T (Katy) Railroad Depot is located at its original site adjacent to the tracks at the intersection of North Washington and Lafayette Streets. The building, which has waiting rooms, an office and a freight area, was completed in November 1897 by the Taylor, Bastrop and Houston Railway Company to replace the town's first station, which burned in March of that year. The T,B&H was soon taken over by the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. Passenger service continued until the 1950s and the depot received and dispatched freight as late as the 1970s.
Highlights of the museum exhibits include the original pot-belly stove, M-K-T safe, and stationmaster's desk, in addition to numerous historic photographs and a gold-headed can presented to James Converse in 1880 in appreciation of his successful efforts to bring a railroad to La Grange. There also are hands-on exhibits for both adults and children. The museum opened on April 29, 2006.

Texas - Museum of the American Railroad
Frisco, TX - Founded in 1963, the Museum of the American Railroad is a not-for-profit Texas corporation dedicated to celebrating the heritage and exploring the future of railroads through historic preservation, research, and educational programming. The museum collects artifacts and archival material from the railroad industry to exhibit and interpret their significance in American life and culture. Exhibits and general programs are provided year-round. Educational programs are available to local schools and universities through study trips, in-class programming & outreach, and online resources.
The Museum has embarked on its most ambitious project to date, the relocation of collections and operations from Dallas' Fair Park to Frisco, Texas a suburb 30 miles to the north. The 1.8 acre Fair Park location was closed in November of 2011 to prepare the historic structures and rolling stock for movement. The Frisco site is currently under construction. The Museum currently maintains interim offices, exhibits, and retail at the Frisco Heritage Museum located a few hundred yards north of the new, permanent site. For additional information about the move, click the Frisco tab above.

Texas - New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society
New Braunfels, TX - The New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society (NBHRMS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of railroad artifacts and education. Our members have a diverse cross section of interests including railroad history, artifact collection, railfanning, and model railroading in all scales.
We have a variety of artifacts and photographs from the golden age of railroading on display. Many of them are directly related to past New Braunfels operations of the International & Great Northern, MOPAC, and MKT railroads. The museum is open to the public at NO CHARGE and all are welcome!
Right next to the museum, is one of the busiest North/South Union Pacific railroad tracks. Over 30 trains pass by each day. Many of these trains run between Canada and Mexico, so it is not unusual to see Canadian and Mexican locomotives. The San Antonio to Chicago AMTRAK passenger train passes by twice per day (Northbound in the morning and Southbound in the early evening).
