New Jersey - Liberty Historic Railway
Jersey City, NJ - Liberty Historic Railway was established in January 2010 as a non-profit, public benefit corporation to jump-start the long-delayed stabilization and restoration of the deteriorated Central RR of NJ, Jersey City Terminal, Train Shed (both Train Shed and Terminal are on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places); to allow appropriate historic transportation equipment to be displayed and interpreted under the Shed; and to promote / provide rail shuttle connections within Liberty State Park to give incentive to the movement of people, not rubber tired vehicles, in, out, and around the Park. Our goal is to make it more convenient, as well as environmentally friendly, for the public to visit the Park via mass transit in lieu of the personal passenger automobile. As visitation grows, so will the pressure for more parking and road capacity within the Park, which could produce a detrimental effect for this majestic free and green open space - New Jersey's largest urban state park.
