Pennsylvania - Rivers of Steel Heritage Area
The Rivers of Steel program builds on the inspiring vision presented in the Steel Industry Heritage Concept Plan, published in 1993. The program described here seeks to preserve and celebrate the story of Big Steel and its related industries. For nearly a century, southwestern Pennsylvania was the powerful hub of this modern industrial epic - one that propelled our nation to world leadership as an industrial giant.
Today, the region presents an incomparable opportunity to explore this multifaceted heritage and to open it to tourists and other visitors.
