Maryland - B&O Railroad Station Museum
Ellicott City, MD - Housed in the "Oldest Railroad Station in America", this landmark site is a living history museum concentrating on the early years of America's first railroad, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Period living historians interpret daily life on the railroad and in Ellicott City from 1827 through 1868. The museum offers a wide variety of artifacts, 19th century memorabilia, and a 1927 I-5 Caboose.
In the adjacent Freight House, visitors enjoy an operating 40' HO-gauge model train layout of the original thirteen miles of track stretching from Baltimore to Ellicott City and award winning videos, which change with the programs.

Maryland - Brunswick Railroad Museum
Brunswick, MD - The mission of the Brunswick Heritage Museum is to tell the story of Brunswick, past to present, through dynamic presentations and programs for history lovers and rail fans of all ages. For over 30 years, the Museum has preserved the history of Brunswick. Known during the Civil War as Berlin, this small town along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was incorporated as Brunswick in 1890. That same year the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad began construction of the 5 mile rail yard that would reshape Brunswick into a company town with a population of over 5000!
The BHM can be seen as two museums in one. On the second floor, the Museum's exhibits tell the story of a town built by the B&O railroad at the turn of the 20th century and the people who lived here. Recreations of late Victorian rooms are the centerpiece complimented by exhibits that recall the lives of the railroaders and their families in the early 1900's. Upstairs on the third floor is our 1700 square foot HO Scale model railroad that depicts the B&O Metropolitan Subdivision beginning at the west end of Brunswick's rail yard and running eastward through Montgomery County communities all the way to Union Station in Washington D.C. The model railroad comes alive with many interactive elements.

Maryland - Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum
Chesapeake Beach, MD - The exhibits in The Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum depict the thriving history and life of the railway and the amusement park. The Museum offers a wide variety of objects and artifacts, both original and best representations of the era. The Museum brings the railway and amusement park to life with pictorial displays, postcards, oral histories and memorabilia. Our exhibits range from railroading lanterns to a Dentzel carousel kangaroo from the park as well as authentic period bathing suits. Visitors may also enjoy our diorama showing the train depot and boardwalk as it appeared in the early 1900's. In addition, the Museum also offers a DVD presentation of the history of the Chesapeake Beach Railway which includes oral histories of the amusement park that was part of the resort area. The Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum is home to the last known railcar, The Dolores, which is located behind the Museum.

Maryland - Friends of President Street Station
Baltimore, MD - The historic 1849 President Street Station, the oldest big city train station in America, has been restored in 1997 after a 15-year long battle to serve as the Baltimore Civil War Museum. The terminal of the old Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad was later absorbed into the Pennsylvania Railroad. Construction was supervised by Isaac Ridgway Trimble, later a Confederate major general who participated in the famed Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. Longtime head of the line during the 1850s and 60s was President Samuel Morse Felton who notified detective Alan Pinkerton of the existence of an assasination plot against President Abraham Lincoln on his way to his inaguration in Washington in February 1861, causing Lincoln to re-route his trip and pass through Baltimore at night. Several months later the station was also the site of the "First Bloodshed of the Civil War" on Friday, April 19, 1861 as the 6th Massachusetts volunteer militia regiment accompanied by the 26th and 27th Pennsylvania regiments ("The Washington Brigade") were attacked while attempting to pass through to get to the Nation's Capital for its defense after the earlier firing on Fort Sumter and the subsequent call by the President for 75,000 volunteers to suppress the rebellion. The Baltimore Civil War Museum has displays and multi-media presentations regarding the railroad history, unique architecture of the station, as an Underground Railroad escape route and its Civil War heritage with the occupation of Baltimore and the state. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is operated by the Maryland Historical Society (website: http://www.mdhs.org) and supported by the Friends of President Street Station, Inc. The PSS is also on the list of the Maryland Civil War Trails program.

Maryland - Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum
Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the city's railroad heritage and to the men and women who made Hagerstown the Hub City. The Hagerstown Roundhouse was lost when it was taken down in March of 1999.
The 25-stall roundhouse, shops and storage buildings were completed by 1939. This complex was in operation for more than 50 years building, maintaining and repairing Western Maryland Railroad locomotives and cars.
The goal of this website is to extend this rich history to you. While we hope you enjoy browsing our website, we welcome you to visit the museum on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Maryland - Marion Station Railroad Museum & Gift Shoppe
Marion, MD - Restored PRR Passenger Station The Marion Station was purchased in April of 1997 by John & Kathy Poulson with the sole intention of creating office space, with little regard for the heritage surrounding the railroads role in the economy of Marion. As they stripped away layers of changes made by previous owners, a new sense of reverence for what this building once stood for began to emerge. They soon became enthusiastic about restoring rather than renovating. The construction project soon became their personal archeological site, uncovering old bottles,PRR inkwells, rubber stamps, Railway Express Agency and Adams Express Money Order Signs, brass baggage tags, wax seal and numerous receipts,
money orders, baggage tickets from as early as 1898

Maryland - Maryland Rail Heritage Library
Baltimore, MD - The Maryland Rail Heritage Library is a joint archive of both the Baltimore Chapter NRHS and the Baltimore Streetcar Museum. It resides on the second floor of the Visitors Center of the Streetcar Museum.
The Library houses thousands of books on railroad and transit subjects, as well as hundreds of thousands of periodicals, photographs, slides, drawings, company publications, videos, movies, timetables, newsletters, and other resources of interest and use to railroad historians, researchers, and railfans. The focus and emphasis on the archive collections is on the railroads, trolleys, and rail transit systems of Maryland and immediate surrounding states, but the scope of the collection is worldwide.

Maryland - National Capital Trolley Museum
Silver Spring, MD - The National Capital Trolley Museum was founded in 1959 after the abandonment of streetcar service in the District of Columbia had become a certainty. The Museum opened to the public in 1969 at its present location in Northwest Branch Park in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Museum's mission is to preserve and interpret the history of Washington's electric street railways. The Museum holds its collections in trust for the public and is accountable to the public it serves.
