Georgia - The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History
Kennesaw, GA - Experience the dramatic history of railroads and the War Between the States at the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History! A prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations member, the Museum provides visitors with a unique perspective into the strategic and economic use of railroads during and after the Civil War. The Museum is home to the General locomotive, made famous during the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, an impressive Civil War collection, and the Glover Machine Works, a restored early 20th century belt-driven locomotive assembly line. The Jolley Education Center offers numerous hands-on and interactive exhibits that are fun for the entire family, and the Cobb Energy Gallery features traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), as well as other sources! The Southern Museum's educational programs reinforce classroom learning by connecting historical information with actual artifacts.
The Glover Machine Works: Casting a New South is an exhibit featuring the only fully restored belt-driven locomotive assembly line in the country. The Glover Machine Works, originally located in Marietta, Georgia, played a significant role in industrializing Georgia after the Civil War by becoming the largest locomotive builder in the South. This exhibit gives visitors a fascinating look at the original machining equipment and two restored Glover locomotives in various stages of assembly.

Georgia - Thronateeska Heritage Center
Albany, GA - Walk through Albany's historic Union Station and see some of the technology that transformed the South. Along with our steam locomotive and selection of other rail cars, Thronateeska also has an HO-scale model railway exhibit inside one of its train cars.
The model railroad exhibit is a favorite of many Thronateeska visitors, especially children. Once a railroad baggage car and mail car that made trips to New Orleans and Jacksonville, the train has been turned into a model train haven. The model trains move through small towns and forests and are set up for visitors to view in the green REA baggage car.
