British Columbia - Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre
Vancouver, BC - Since 1887, the Roundhouse has been an important entity in the history of BC and of Canada, holding a significant position in commerce and development in Vancouver. The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre is jointly operated by the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation and the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Society. ENGINE 374

The community centre is proud to also house Engine 374. Engine 374 was the first passenger train to enter Vancouver on May 23, 1887. It sat lonely and deteriorating in Kitsilano Park for many years until train lovers rescued and restored it in time for Expo 86. After a major fundraising campaign by the Vancouver Central Lion's Club it found its new home in the glass pavilion attached to the Roundhouse, where it is a designated heritage monument.

British Columbia - Agassiz-Harrison Museum
Agassiz, BC - The Agassiz-Harrison Museum is housed in a Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) station, built in 1893. The building was once a fully-operating station, and was also the living quarters for the station master and his family. In the 1970s, stationmasters were gradually phased out and CPR eventually discontinued the use of stations. The building was purchased in 1986 by the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society for $1.00 and opened as a museum.

British Columbia - Canadian Museum of Rail Travel
Cranbrook, BC - A Collection of Preserved Luxury Trains and a Collection of Cranbrook History at the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel

The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel is a collection of 28 railway cars of which 17 are currently available for tours to the public. Highlights of the collection include the 7 cars of the 1929 Trans-Canada Limited (a classic Jazz Era Art Deco design), 2 cars of the 1907 Soo-Spokane Train (a deluxe example of Edwardian Art Nouveau Elegance), and the 1927 executive night car Strathcona which has housed many VIP guests during its time in service, including Queen Elizabeth II and Sir Winston Churchill.

The current collection of rail travel cars, the largest in North America, is in a process of continued restoration that will take decades to complete. Because of the fragile nature of this irreplaceable collection, an immediate priority is providing a permanent covered roof to ensure these ‘deluxe hotels on wheels' are preserved for future visitors and historians alike.
