Pennsylvania - Duquesne Incline
Pittsburgh, PA - Providing safe, reliable, rapid public transportation, via funicular railway, since May 20, 1877, for the residents and businesses of the Duquesne Heights and Mount Washington sections of the City of Pittsburgh. Utilizing two original, 1877 cable cars, the Duquesne Incline is a working museum. The Upper Station, on Grandview Avenue, includes displays regarding the history of the Incline and the City of Pittsburgh, and pictures of other cable and rail cars from around the world.
Additionally, the spacious, Observation Deck overlooks the beautiful Golden Triangle of Downtown Pittsburgh.
Take a step back in time on a century-old cable car and see the best views of downtown Pittsburgh while riding one of the few remaining inclines in the country. Opened on May 20, 1877, the Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963 and still delights residents and visitors with its original, elegant, wooden cable cars. Now you can visit the interior of the incline and watch the machinery while it operates. The Duquesne Incline's upper station houses a museum of Pittsburgh history, including photos and a storehouse of information on inclines from around the world. Unusual Pittsburgh souvenirs, maps and photos can be found at the gift shop.

Pennsylvania - Electric City Trolley Museum
Scranton, PA - Trolley Excursion. Follow the path of the famed Laurel Line electric interurban railroad.
During the operating season, the trolley excursion will depart from the main passenger platform of the Steamtown National Historic Site. Trips are scheduled at 10:30 AM, 12:00 Noon, 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM Thursday through Sunday.
Please note that tickets for the trolley excursion are sold at the Trolley Museum building and are not available on the car. The trolley excursion boarding area is between the Trolley Museum building and the main Steamtown facilities.
The scenic route follows a portion of the former Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley (Laurel Line) Railroad right-of-way as it parallels Roaring Brook proceeds past the Historic Iron Furnaces and continues through the Crown Avenue Tunnel at 4747 feet long, one of the longest interurban tunnels ever built.
An additional extension to the Lackawanna County Stadium at Montage was completed July 14, 2006.

Pennsylvania - Gallitzin Tunnels Park & Museum
Gallitzin, PA - Our recently renovated park, adjacent to the Gallitzin Tunnels, exhibits a restored 1942 Pennsylvania Railroad N5C Caboose. Visitors can use the ramp and platform to climb aboard this unit. The caboose has been restored to its original 1942 condition where visitors can see the sleeping quarters, eating area, old fashioned pot bellied cooking and heating stove, cupola, air-brake system, lighting facilities, bathroom facilities, signal lights and an observation post looking down on the newly installed PRR Walkway. Children can romp in the play area which features a wooden train. An operating vintage PRR position-light signal "guards" the entrance to the park. Excellent area for picture taking. Handicapped accessible.
A recent addition to this beautiful Tunnels Park/Caboose visitors' area is a community heritage museum. he museum area features a display of pictures depicting the community's industrial, social, and religious heritage. Many historical artifacts, donated by townspeople and railroad enthusiasts are prominently displayed in special kiosks. It houses a small souvenir shop supervised by a docent. Immediately adjacent to the museum is a 24 seat theater which has a schedule of video tapes, programs dealing with railroads, heritage and other current topics.

Pennsylvania - Harris Tower
Harrisburg, PA - In 1992, Harris Interlocking Tower was acquired by the Chapter from Amtrak. Since then, it has been completely restored to its appearance in 1945 and all facets of the interlocking machine, model board and communications equipment have been made operable so that the tower can be enjoyed by visitors. Pennsylvania - Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark
Altoona, PA - The Horseshoe Curve opened February 15, 1854 and was engineered by J. Edgar Thompson. It is located at Kittaning Point, at the base of the Allegheny Mountains.
The length of the curve is 2375 feet. Degree of curvature is 9 degrees; 25 minutes; central angle is 220 degrees. Elevation of lower (east) end of the curve is 1594 feet, upper (west) end is 1716 feet-122 feet total elevation climb. The grade is 1.8% or 1.8 foot rise per 100 feet.
Take a most beautiful drive through the Allegheny Mountains. Experience the challenge the Pennsylvania Railroad workers overcame by completing rail tracks through this rough terrain. Once you have arrived at the Horseshoe Curve, enjoy one of the World's most incredible engineering feats.
Ride the Funicular or walk 194 beautiful landscaped steps to the tracks for a front seat view of a train mans' wonder. You will also find the Horseshoe Curve to be a relaxing and entertaining place to enjoy a picnic lunch.

Pennsylvania - Johnstown Inclined Plane
Johnstown, PA - Built after the Johnstown flood of 1889, the Inclined Plane's original purpose was to connect downtown with the higher grounds of Westmont Borough in order to develop that area residentially. During Johnstown's two other floods in 1936 and 1977, the Incline became a lifesaver, helping people to escape downtown as well as to ship supplies into the valley.
In its heyday, the Incline carried approximately 1,000,000 passengers a year to and from the downtown area. This was larely due to the steel mills that were in operation. Today the Incline welcomes visitors and locals alike, carrying approximately 100,000 passengers a year.
The Johnstown Inclined Plane is the steepest vehicular incline in the world, meaning its 30' cars, which are large enough to hold 60 people, 6 motorcycles, or a vehicle, travel at the steepest grade for cars their size.
