New Zealand - Ferrymead Heritage Park
Christchurch New Zealand - Ferrymead owes its importance in history to the hills dividing Christchurch from the port of Lyttelton. Pioneers transported their goods over the steep Bridle Path from Lyttelton to Heathcote, where punts were used to cross the river into early Christchurch. Later traffic came by sea up the estuary. In 1863, the first railway in New Zealand was opened, running from Ferrymead into central Christchurch. This railway line was the inspiration for Ferrymead Heritage Park and the restored railway line follows part of the route today.
Ferrymead Park features an early 1900s (Edwardian) township and the park has a variety of restored cottages plus a school house, church and businesses which reflect the period and allow visitors to experience life for the early residents of Christchurch including the smell of a coal range and the sounds of a tram rattling past the door.

New Zealand - Glenbrook Vintage Railway
Auckland, New Zealand - The GVR is based on part of the old NZR Waiuku branch line which opened in 1922 and closed in 1967. Construction of the GVR began in 1970 and in 1977 the railway opened between Glenbrook and Pukeoware. In 1986 an extension was completed to Fernleigh, 6 km from Glenbrook. In 2010 a further extension was completed to Victoria Ave, Waiuku the current terminus, 7.5 km from Glenbrook.
The Railway is not a museum as such, but rather a fully self-supporting, operating steam railway, built almost entirely by volunteer labour. It is an ongoing project, with items being collected and restored or replicated as time, labour and finance permit.
The GVR is run by a Trust Board, comprising three trustees elected and appointed from the Railway Enthusiasts Society membership. The Board appoints a General Manager who is responsible for the day to day operation of the GVR. The 7.5 km long railway carries over 30,000 passengers during the normal operating season which is from October to June each year and is also available for charter throughout the year.
The Railway is staffed and maintained by volunteers and RES membership provides automatic access to all activities as a volunteer. Special Events are often held, such as "Day Out with Thomas" weekends and Steam Festivals.

Newfoundland - Port aux Basques Railway Heritage Museum
Port aux Basques, NL - Located in Port aux Basques, the Railway Heritage Museum reflects the voyages that began over 100 years ago and takes a walk back in time to recapture the importance of the railway, fishery and ferry service in Newfoundland's history.
Examples of Channel-Port aux Basques' long and colourful heritage in the transportation and fishery industry can be seen at the Railway Heritage Museum. Currently our train cars consist of a Snowplow, a Diesel Locomotive, two Tank cars from World War II, a Newfoundland boxcar, a Sleeper car, two Baggage cars and a Caboose.
Two special historical artifacts at the museum are the Astrolabes, late medieval navigational instruments dating back to the 1600s discovered by Port aux Basques resident Wayne Mushrow on ship wrecks off of Isle aux Morts. The Mushrow Astrolabes are on display at the Railway Heritage Museum during the summer season.
