The Härtsfeld-Museumsbahn
The ancient Härtsfeldbahn leading from Aalen via Neresheim to Dillingen/Donau (in bavaria) was frequently used for weekend trips due to the very nice landscape. But in the year 1972 the service was stopped and the line was de-mounted. The diesel rail-cars and their trailers were sold to other lines, the steam-locomotive 12 was placed on a playing ground and steam-locomotive 11 was left at Neresheim as a memorial. Normally this would be the end of the history of a branch line.
After long preparative work and a 5 years lasting project approval procedure the first step to reconstruct the first 3 kilometers was taken on Mai 16, 1996. Exactly to the 100th birtday of the Härtsfeldbahn, on October 20, 2001, the official service started on the line.
The impossible has been made possible. Today the trains run on the Härtsfeld like 50 or 100 years ago, but only some days in the year.

The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Preservation Trust Ltd
n 1937 the 100th Gresley Pacific was built by the London and North Eastern Railway, and the railway honoured her designer by giving the locomotive his name. This loco, Sir Nigel Gresley, now bearing the British Railways number 60007, was saved from scrapping in 1966 by a small group of determined men who set up the A4 Preservation Society. This became The A4 Locomotive Society Ltd and has recently undergone a further evolution into The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Preservation Trust Ltd. (The name of the A4 Locomotive Society Ltd lives on as the subsidiary company which operates the locomotive for the Trust).
The Trust ~ now a registered charity, Nº1079591 ~ is dedicated to keeping the locomotive running, both on heritage railways and, as much as we can, on her natural environment the main line.
