Peak Rail
n 1968 the railway between Matlock and Buxton through the Peak National Park was closed and lifted. This was once part of the Midland Railway's line between Manchester Central and London St.Pancras. In 1975 a group of enthusiasts formed the Peak Railway Society with the aim of re-opening the line. Initially a Steam Centre was opened at Buxton, attention later moved to the southern end of the line, where undergrowth was hacked away and rails reinstated. Services commenced between Matlock and Darley Dale in 1991. The northern extension to the site of the former Rowsley locomotive depot saw its first passenger trains in 1997, where further facilities are currently being developed.

Pendon Indoor Model Village and Railways
Abingdon, Oxfordshire - At Pendon we aim to recapture, in detailed and colourful miniature, scenes showing the beauty of the English countryside as it used to be in the years around 1930. Realistically modelled cottages, farms, fields and lanes recall the peaceful country ways of that period. Cavalcades of trains, accurately represented, provide a fascinating record of the railways of the time. Pendon is being created entirely by volunteer modellers who work to the most exacting standards.

Quebec - Canadian Railway Museum
Delson/Saint-Constant (Montreal), Quebec - the Museum is home to the largest collection of railway equipment in Canada and is one of the most remarkable of its type in North America. The historical value of its collection is such that in 1978, the National Museums of Canada recognized it as being the specialized museum in Canadian Railway history.

Over the past fifty years, the Canadian Railroad Historical Association has collected and preserved exceptional archival documents and rare railroad and tramway artefacts, testimony of the major role of rail transportation in Canada's development. These artefacts reflect the know-how and sometimes harsh living conditions of the thousands of rail workers.

Quebec - Funiculaire du Vieux-Québec inc.
Quebec City, QE - Built by William Griffith, the first funicular went into aporation on November 17, 1879. The cabins scaled up and down the escarpment by means of a counter weight water process and steam power. In 1907, Alexander Cummings converted the funicular to electrical power.

On July 2, 1945, a massive fire destroyed the structure. Reconstructed in 1946, the new funicular was equipped with metal shelters. In 1978, major renovations were undertaken and glass cabins offered a panoramic view.

In 1998, the funicular was entirely revamped with modern technology. In 2004, the funicular celebrated 125 years of services. A book was published and the event was commemorated with a statue. This is the only funicular of its kind in America.
