Idaho - Canyon County Historical Society Nampa Depot
Nampa, ID - On May 20th, 2010, The Canyon County Historical Society, in partnership with The National Trust for Historic Preservation, kicked off a capital campaign to preserve and restore the unique and beautiful 1903 Nampa Train Depot. The Nampa Depot is the only depot in southwest Idaho that has not been fully restored.
The goal is to completely restore the depot and turn it into a railroad museum, exclusively." said president Bob Wagner. "We also have a grand plan for the rest of the grounds, including making the caboose and derrick ADA accessible, building a beautiful courtyard that will be a shrine to Nampa's railroad workers, and finally, a new museum building alongside the depot that will house exhibits on Canyon County's rich history, artifact storage, and offices. It will, ultimately, be a downtown attraction that will make all of Canyon County proud.

Idaho - Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum
Wallace, ID - Let us take you back to when railroads were king of transportation. As you enter the museum, you step into the re-creation of an early working railroad station.
Exhibits tell the rich history of railroading in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District and the depot itself. Railroads have been at work in the Coeur d'Alene silver mining region since 1887. The last train to service the area (Union Pacific) was July 15th, 1994.
The Northern Pacific Depot was constructed in 1901 with unique bricks from the Olympian Hotel, the original terminus of the transcontinental NPRR in Tacoma. The bricks were manufactured by Gladding McBean Bricks of Lincoln, California. Concrete panels were made from mine tailings. In 1986, due to the construction of I-90, the building was moved approximately 200 feet across the Coeur d'Alene River to its current location. Every year in May we celebrate the anniversary of the Depot's move, the day before Mother's Day, with the Depot Day Classic Automobile Show.

Ilinois - Batavia Historical Society Depot Museum
Batavia, IL - One of the society founders' dreams came true with the acquisition, moving, and renovation of the Depot Museum which was the abandoned Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Depot at Webster and Van Buren Streets erected in 1854.
Today, nearly 100 volunteers keep the museum staffed, acting as docents, catalogers, and helpers with the many activities of the society and the museum. Other members assist researchers at the Gustafson Research Center.
Batavia railroad history comes alive in a permanent exhibit about the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (est. 1850), the Chicago & North Western Railroad (est. 1872) and the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Electric Line (est. 1902). Three railroad lines served Batavia freight and passenger service until the mid-1900's when the automobile became the transportation of choice. On display are many railroad artifacts, photos and ticket agent office. A detailed section on the telegraph system and it's role in railroad history includes live telegraph keys where visitors can try their hand at sending messages using Morse Code.

Illinois - Abraham Lincoln Depot
Springfield, IL - When Lincoln left Springfield to start his inaugural journey on February 11, 1861, he paid an unforgettable tribute to his friends and neighbors known today as the Farewell Address. Lincoln spoke these famous words as he boarded a special Presidential train at the Great Western Railroad station, now a restored Lincoln visitor site. The old brick depot is often overlooked by visitors but is worth investigating -- it's just two blocks from the Lincoln home.

Illinois - CB&Q railroad station restoration
Oregon, IL - At 5 o'clock in the morning of Saturday, November 10, 1893, the fire broke out. Despite efforts to save her, the first train depot to serve the people of Oregon, Illinois, burned to the ground.
A modest replacement structure was erected the following year, but it too was damaged by fire 15 years later. Ultimately, the depot that still stands today was built by the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railway in 1913. What had been in its time an attractive and modern edifice served rail travelers until 1971, when all passenger rail service to Oregon was discontinued.
Through years of non-use, misuse, abuse, and neglect, the once proud depot had suffered. But in 2001, an ambitious and dedicated group of people began a project that continues today...the Oregon Depot Restoration Project.

Illinois - Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad Historical Society Museum
Watseka, IL - The Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad Historical Society has opened a museum in two rooms of the Watseka Union Station in Watseka, Illinois. In the late 1980's the Watseka Union Depot was acquired by the Watseka Historical Society and moved about 300 feet east of the original location. A new basement was constructed under the relocated building and it was then lowered to its new foundation. The historical group then began the restoration project to restore the station to its original appearance. The facility now provides a location for various Watseka area functions such as dinners, charity events and even wedding receptions. The depot level consists of a main waiting room, a ladies waiting room, former office and baggage area for the Toledo Peoria and Western and the former office and baggage area of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad.
